Indiana Rescue & Power Crews Dispatched Ahead of Hurricane Dorian

Subscribe NowAs states in the southeast U.S. prepare for the onslaught of Hurricane Dorian, emergency responders are staging rescue and utility teams to help after the storm passes, including crews from Indiana. Plainfield-based Duke Energy and Indiana Michigan Power Co., based in Fort Wayne, are dispatching crews from Indiana to assist in storm restoration.
Duke says it is sending a contingent of line workers, vegetation workers, supervisors and administrative personnel to assist in the southeast who are affected by the storm.
Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) says Indiana crews will stage their trucks in Macon, Georgia to await instructions on where to head, depending on where the storm hits and the severity of the damage.
It’s unknown at this point how long crews will be deployed.
I & M Power, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), says it’s sending more than 350 employees and contractors to help restore power.
The I&M crews come from the entire service territory, including Fort Wayne, Muncie, and South Bend.
Meanwhile, Indiana Task Force 1 has been mobilized. The highly trained rescue squad, which includes K-9 units, says it has received activation orders to deploy immediately. According to a Task Force 1 tweet, the Indiana team will consist of 85 responders.
The Indiana chapter of the American Red Cross is also prepared to respond to southeast United States. In a tweet, local American Red Cross CEO Chad Priest said, “This storm is shaping up to have the potential for serious impact.
