Cathy Eaken is now the deputy commanding general for sustainment for the Guard’s 38th Infantry Division. Previously a colonel, she received her one-star flags on Aug. 8.
“For over 31 years, General Eaken has faithfully served the Indiana Army National Guard. In every role held, she has excelled and established a superb reputation,” said division leader Maj. Gen. Dan Degelow, according to a Guard news account of the promotion ceremony. “Her expertise in sustainment operations, leadership ability, ethics and knowledge of how the Army runs are why she was selected.”
As the leader of sustainment, she oversees logistics, administrative and other functions within the division. She previously served as the division’s personnel officer, logistics officer and chief of staff.
Eaken’s military career started in 1993 as an ROTC cadet in her sophomore year at Ball State University. She has held leadership positions from platoon to brigade and served in Afghanistan in 2006 and in Kuwait in 2019.
Later this year, 600 of the 38th Infantry Division’s soldiers will deploy to Operation Spartan Shield in the Middle East.
“The goal is always to promote peace and security and ultimately prevent chaos inside our borders like what happened on 9/11,” Eaken said in the Guard news account. “I am honored to be part of the team, in this new capacity, and I look forward to this new challenge.”
