Indiana joins 47 states suing Arizona telecom company

The complaint claims Avid Telecom violated numerous federal laws, such as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Telemarketing Sales Rule, through transmitting 7.5 billion calls to numbers listed on the National Do Not Call Registry.
The lawsuit lists Michael D. Lansky LLC, publicly known as Avid Telecom, as well as the LLC’s CEO namesake and vice president, Stacey Reeves, according to the complaint.
The Voice over Internet Protocol provider is alleged to be responsible for allowing Social Security, Medicare, auto warranty, credit card interest rate reduction and employment scams to be sent through their service. The attorney general’s office provided examples to a calls including a person posing as a social security advisor and another saying he is with a Medicare program.
USTelecom-led Industry Traceback Group gave at least 329 notices to the company, according to the complaint, saying ITG detected that Avid Telecom was allowing robocalls through its service and told it to improve its traffic screening procedures.
Rokita previously sued one of Avid Telecom’s customers for sending more than 4 billion robocalls over a two-year period.
