The publication evaluates hospitals on 36 areas of care, such as medical specialties, procedures and conditions.
IU Health University Medical Center in Indianapolis was named the best hospital in Indiana with Deaconess Hospital – Evansville taking the silver and Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis coming in third. Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville and Community Hospital in Munster tied for fourth.
The hospitals were nearly entirely ranked as either high-performing or average in the individual breakdown of services provided, including diabetes, heart attack, and stroke.
However, none of the five Indiana hospitals were ranked in a specialty category like cancer, cardiology or orthopedics.
The 2023-24 Best Hospitals “Honor Roll” did not include any Hoosier hospitals but did include household names like the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
