The state program will work with farmers, producers and businesses looking to sell their products to put together a food resource guide for local schools.
Under the guidance of the Indiana State Department of Health, Purdue Extension will gather the information on products including fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains and drinks. Once the Indiana Grown for Schools Resource Guide is complete, the Indiana Department of Education will distribute it to all Indiana public school corporations.
Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch says the partnership is all about equipping school corporations with the resources they need to make better and more informed decisions when purchasing local foods. She says a key part of that is making sure they know what products are available throughout the state.
Indiana farmers, producers and businesses interested in selling their products through the guide have until February 1 to fill out an online survey.
