Indiana DOE announces Purple Star schools

The Indiana Department of Education announced that 102 schools have earned a Purple Star designation, which is a three-year award for institutions committed to celebrating service members, veterans and students and families connected to the military.
This year’s cohort is the largest in the award’s history. The Purple Star was created in 2020. Of the 102 schools, 64 are new additions this year.
“The daily sacrifices of our service members and their families are beyond what many of us can comprehend,” Indiana Secretary of Education Katie Jenner said in a news release. “Honoring their selflessness and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms as Americans is a priority for our state, on Veterans Day and every day of the year. It is an honor to award the Purple Star designation to these Indiana schools for their recognition, celebration and support of our military families, as well as our students who may be considering a future in military service.”
To earn a Purple Star, schools must meet certain requirements, host an annual military program, have a public display, submit an honorary school board resolution and follow certain hiring practices.
