Those three educators include Brandon Denning, a middle school math teacher from Indianapolis Public Schools; Eric Jenkins, a high school English teacher from Franklin Community Schools; and Matt Thomas, a freshman English teacher for Valparaiso Community Schools.
The winner of this year’s Teacher of the Year distinction will be announced in October.
“With over 65,000 teachers in Indiana, what an honor it is for these teachers to be named one of the top three in the state,” Indiana Secretary of Education Katie Jenner said in a news release. “We know through research that a quality teacher is one of the most influential factors in student achievement, which underscores the importance of continuing to recruit excellent candidates to join the profession.”
The state-level recipient will represent Indiana on the national level.
