OCRA says the grants will be used to develop specific plans to begin economic development projects.
Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch says the funding will support communities as they make investments to help their quality of life.
“Planning grants can lead to big differences in rural Indiana. These seven communities can work with their local leaders to find the best plan to boost local infrastructure that will benefit the Hoosiers they serve,” said Crouch.
The state distributed the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Block Grant funds to rural towns to help local governments. OCRA Executive Director Denny Spinner says these specific grants will be used for water infrastructure projects and comprehensive community planning.
The town of Colfax was awarded $85,500 and the city of Jonesboro received $90,000 for water infrastructure projects.
The five communities receiving comprehensive planning grants include:
- Connersville – $60,000;
- Galveston – $48,600;
- Monticello – $44,100;
- Oakland City – $50,000;
- Owen County – $60,000.
