Indiana Arts Commission Approves Dozens of Grants
The commission says the plan is the result of more than a year of research and public input.

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Arts Commission has approved 73 projects for the 2019 Arts in the Parks and Historic Sites program. The grants totaled $213,385 and will fund art activities to entice visitors at the state’s historic sites and parks.
“Each year we continue to see increased interest from artists and arts organizations in being part of sharing the arts in a non-traditional environment,” said Anna Tragesser, IAC Artist and Community Services Manager. “We saw an increase in the number of individual artists submitting proposals, and the projects will take place in 27 of the state’s 33 park properties and eight of its 11 historic sites.”
Some of the individual grants include $3,000 to Tamara Brown in Delaware County for the Paints in the Parks: The Final Five. The grant helps Brown continue her quest to paint at all of Indiana’s state parks. McCormick’s Creek artist-in-residence Kate Ellis also received $3,000. Ellis plans to use the funding to create art during peak wildflower season.
Organizational grants include $3,000 to the Auburn Arts Commission, Inc. for their one-day Plein Airpainting Event at the Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site. The Friends of Shakamak Music in the Park program also received a $3,000 grant. The grant will help fund the summer music enrichment series and the Christmas in July and Fall Festival celebrations.
