The $34.5 million facility replaces the previous treatment plant, which was built in the 1950s. The utility said the upgraded plant will support a production capacity of 1.5 million gallons per day, a threefold increase over the 500,000 gallons per day of the former facility.
“Indiana American Water is dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and affordable water service to our communities,” President Matthew Prine said in a news release. “This new plant will not only increase capacity but also improve service reliability, quality, energy efficiency, and public safety, particularly by enhancing fire-fighting capabilities through increased water pressure and flow.”
Additional features of the plant include an improved filtration process, advanced chemical-feed systems to meet current and future drinking water standards, real-time data monitoring, an emergency power generator and a new well.
In addition to the new plant, Indiana American Water has invested nearly $31 million in infrastructure improvements in Sheridan, including new water mains, fire hydrants, valves, and meters, the news release said. The utility also brought a new $11.4 million wastewater treatment facility into service there in 2021.

Indiana American Water, the largest regulated water utility in the state, provides water and wastewater services to about 1.4 million people. It is a subsidiary of American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States, which provides services to more than 14 million people in 14 states and on 18 military installations.
Sheridan is a town of about 3,400 residents in northwest Hamilton County. The town and Adams Township will soon merge, following the approval of township residents in a November vote. A stretch of the U.S. 31 corridor just east of the town called Bakers Corner also is drawing interest from developers.
