The museum is currently undergoing major renovations, which will include the addition of a new STEAM classroom intended to expose kids to careers in the motorsports industry.
In the new position, Apollos will be responsible for leading the development of educational programming, as well as directing the STEAM classroom.
“Education has always been a foundational component of our mission, exhibits and guest experiences,” IMS Museum Vice President of Curation and Education Jason Vansickle said in a news release. “Jake’s classroom and leadership experience in STEM will help us identify and implement additional opportunities that infuse even more educational elements into our new exhibits while also creating hands-on programs for students that encourage them to consider careers in science and technology.”
Apollos has over 15 years of educational experience, most recently serving as principal of Decatur High Ability Academy in MSD Decatur Township. Prior to that he worked for 10 years as a science teacher and STEM facilitator at Plainfield Community school, and in various other schools teaching both middle and high school.
The IMS Museum is closed during the $89 million renovation, but is expected to reopen in spring 2025. Around INdiana Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman got a look at the museum’s progress in May during our Business at the Brickyard series.
