Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the 20,000-square-foot machine shop will support oil refineries, chemical plants and steel mills in northwest Indiana.
The company broke ground in June, saying it would invest $2.5 million to build and staff the facility. The new facility will include offices, a fabrication shop, a craft training center, and a corporate office.
The publication reports Manhattan Mechanical, which is headquartered in the Chicago suburb of Manhattan, was recently recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of the region’s 50 fastest-growing companies.
“The taxes are lower in Indiana,” said Mike Uremovich, company president “It’s more business-friendly. Taxes are pushing people out of Illinois, and they’re walking to Indiana.”
Uremovich says the company will train employees for jobs that start at $16 an hour and go up to $19 an hour after 90 days. He says workers can make up to $100,000 a year after completing an apprenticeship.
