The company, a subsidiary of Japan-based Nippon Paint, is investing $4.7 million in its expansion into the nearly 125,000 square-foot facility, which will create up to 22 jobs by 2018.
NB Coatings will use the building as a warehouse and distribution facility. The company manufactures automotive coatings for plastics and will use the facility for finished products and raw materials.
"The site in Hobart is ideal for us," said Jack Wickham, vice president of NB Coatings. "The developers, the city of Hobart, and the state of Indiana have been extremely helpful and welcoming. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Hobart, Northwest Indiana and the state of Indiana.”
Wickham says NB Coatings chose Hobart because of its proximity to the company’s headquarters in Lansing, Illinois and its access to I-65 and I-94.
The company plans to begin moving into the facility in January and begin hiring later this year. The state says new material handling positions are expected to pay salaries above the Lake County average wage.
