The IDOE says the Indiana Graduates Prepared to Succeed system hopes to provide a comprehensive view of school and student performance. The Indiana General Assembly directed the IDOE and the State Board of Education to develop a dashboard that “promotes transparency and multiple student measures, including longitudinal measures.”
As part of the framework for the Indiana GPS and development of the performance dashboard, IDOE is working with educators, parents and community leaders to determine the most important characteristics contributing to a student’s lifelong success.
“We know that our students are so much more than just a single data point,” said Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education. “That’s why as we look ahead to the best system for measuring school and student performance, we must provide a more holistic, intentional approach. Empowered by this framework and dashboard, we have an opportunity to re-envision how educational progress is measured, tailor learning for individual students, and strengthen how we provide information regarding our schools’ educational programs and results.”
IDOE says it plans to finalize the Indiana GPS characteristics this fall. The agency will then submit the plant to the SBOE for its approval in December. Click here to learn more about the effort.
