Ice Miller LLP has added Partner Guillermo Christensen in its data privacy and security and white collar defense groups. He combines his experience as an attorney, a former CIA intelligence officer and a diplomat for the U.S. Department of State to shape and inform the advice he provides clients on various enterprise risks involving cybersecurity and national security law. His cybersecurity experience ranges from conducting information security risk assessments to managing responses to security incidents and breaches.

Guillermo also counsels clients in managing national security reviews through the Committee on Foreign Investment in the Unites States, particularly those involving high-technology and critical infrastructure sectors. He has also managed an international trade practice around compliance, due diligence and M&A work, involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctions, and has lead internal investigations for clients operating in South America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Guillermo served as an intelligence officer with the CIA for 15 years in a variety of domestic and international assignments. His work in the intelligence community included stints at the FBI and helping to set up national fusion centers focused on new emerging threats. From 2001-2002, he held the National Intelligence Fellow position at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. Guillermo subsequently returned to public service in 2010-2011 as science and technology advisor to the U.S. Mission to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris. There, he was responsible for managing and conceptualizing U.S. policy in the areas of technology, telecommunications, privacy and science at the OECD.
