John Koppin has announced he will retire at the end of the year from his position as president of the Indiana Broadband and Technology Association. Koppin began working at the association in 1984 as vice president and became president in 1993.

Koppin has led the statewide association through several technological advances and changes, including from monopoly telephone services to cellular communication and 5G wireless service.

“We have accomplished many policy changes for the benefit of the State of Indiana, the industry, its customers and our members,” he said.  “We were one of the first states in the nation to adopt enhanced 911, we created Relay Indiana to benefit our deaf community, we helped to create the Indiana Telehealth Network that takes high speed fiber based Internet to 250 rural hospitals and clinics throughout the state”.

One major accomplishment was the passage of the Telecommunications Reform Act of 2006 that deregulated telecom services. Indiana was the first state in the country to provide competition to communications and video services companies.

“It has been a privilege to lead this dynamic Association over my career.  It has afforded me the opportunity to work with the best and brightest leaders in our industry and with outstanding leaders in federal, state and local government.  It has been a most a satisfying career especially as I look back at all that we have achieved together for Indiana,” Koppin said.
