The honor from Bloomington-based Regional Opportunity Initiatives Inc. "recognizes projects and meaningful community improvements that enhance the Indiana Uplands as an inventive, industrious, and friendly place to live, work, and play."
ROI presented the award during its annual report to the region event in French Lick. The organization said the project is a worthy recipient of the award because of the role it plays in refocusing the potential for Dubois County city’s downtown and advancing economic development.
The Market Street Park project was part of the city’s proposal for the Stellar Communities designation program. Huntingburg was one of the two communities that landed the designation in 2014.
"We are very honored that Market Street Park has been selected for this award, as this recognition reinforces the reasons the project was included in our initial Stellar strategic investment plan," Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner said in a news release. "Utilization of the park, which is located in the heart of our historic downtown, demonstrates the ability for both historic and modern amenities to coincide in order to create a quality of place for everyone."
Tina Peterson, chief executive officer for ROI, calls the project a win for the city, county and the Indiana Uplands.
