(Nasdaq: MAR) has approved a franchise for an 80-room Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel, which is scheduled to open in late summer 2018.
The hotel will cost an estimated $8 million to construct. It will be located on the site of the "kiln building" on the former Jasper Cabinet Co. property. Demolition on the River Centre project began in February. The project is being developed by General Hotels Corp. and Boxer Girl LLC, both based in Indianapolis.
"Marriott’s endorsement clears the way for us to move forward with the project," said Jim Dora, chief executive officer of General Hotels Corp. "With a Fairfield Inn & Suites franchise, we look forward to offering award-winning and moderately-priced lodging in Jasper’s exciting new River Centre development."
General Hotels Corp. will oversee day-to-day operation of the hotel. When complete, the River Centre development will also feature 75 apartment units and 36,000 square feet of office and retail space, including a variety of restaurants.
