Subscribe NowA new group from the organization behind events like the Combine in Bloomington and Ignite Bloomington has launched to draw more women to the tech scene in the Monroe County city. Hoosier Women in Technology, created by Bloomington-based nonprofit Humanetrix Foundation Inc., will host its first event toward the end of the month. Danise Alano-Martin says HooWiT will serve as a forum for engagement and connections for women looking to break into tech or advance their careers.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Alano-Martin said the group will fill a growing need in Bloomington and beyond. "We know that even in the past couple of decades, that the number of women employed in technology has actually declined," she said. "We want to see those numbers continue to rise, we want to make up the gap that has been created over the past couple of decades and we know that there are great tech companies in Bloomington who are seeking qualified tech workers and we know that those workers are coming out of (Indiana) University, and we know that a good portion of those students are women." Thus, the group and organization are seeking to seize upon this pipeline and push to boost diversity and talent quality within the city and state’s workforce.
