The annual study evaluates hospitals from throughout the country on criteria including clinical quality, operational efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Researchers use data from 5,500 U.S. hospitals. The award-winning hospitals are selected from more than 2,700 that meet the criteria to be included. Those that make the top 100, according to IBM Watson Health, demonstrate top performance on patient care, through clinical measures, and how efficiently the hospital performs, through operational measures.
The Indiana hospitals on the 2019 list include:
Teaching Hospitals:
- Parkview Regional Medical Center – Fort Wayne
Large Community Hospitals:
- IU Health Bloomington Hospital – Bloomington
Medium Community Hospitals:
- Dupont Hospital – Fort Wayne
- IU Health North Hospital – Carmel
- IU Health West Hospital – Avon
Small Community Hospitals:
- Parkview Noble Hospital – Kendallville
- Parkview Whitley Hosptial – Columbia City
Additionally, IU Health Bloomington Hospital, Parkview Regional Medical Center, and Parkview Whitley Hospital received the Everest Award. The honor "recognizes the board, executives, and medical staff leaders who developed and executed the strategies that drove the highest rates of improvement, resulting in the highest performance in the U.S. at the end of five years."
Each of the Indiana hospitals received the Everest Award for the first time.
