Hoosier Homeowners Warned About Tornado Repair Scams

Subscribe NowIt’s been an active tornado season in Indiana and Attorney General Curtis Hill is warning against home repair scammers.Hill says his office has received calls from worried homeowners who were approached by contractors offering a deal to fix storm-damaged homes.
The AG’s office says certain contractors will waive insurance deductibles for customers who hire them to make repairs.
But the attorney general’s office says this is illegal under Indiana law. Contractors are prohibited from advertising, offering or promising rebates on any part of the insurance deductible to entice people into a contract.
The National Weather Service says five tornadoes struck counties in north central and central Indiana on Memorial Day. Two weeks later another powerful storm produced nine twisters in central Indiana.
Consumers who have received these types of offers are encouraged to contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s office.
