Hoosier Companies Named as Best Employers

Nearly two dozen Hoosier business were named to Forbes 2022 lists of America’s Best Employers. The ranking included categories for both large and mid-sized companies and is based on surveys of 60,000 workers.
Fort Wayne-based Vera Bradley Inc. (Nasdaq: VRA) was named the top company on the Forbes list of best mid-sized employers. The luggage, handbag, and accessory design company is also the only Indiana company in the top 100.
Large Indiana companies were also noted for their workplace policies. Among the top 100 were Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) at No. 58, the University of Notre Dame at No. 65, Evansville-based Deaconess Health System at No. 67, and Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette comes in at No. 79.
Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to compile a list by surveying 60,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees for its mid-sized category. Participants were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family, and to nominate organizations other than their own.
“Two years into a pandemic that’s forever transformed the workplace, what makes a good employer? Whether working from home or the office, Americans’ priorities have changed, and with 10.9 million job openings and an unemployment rate of 4%, what makes a top employer has changed, too,” said the publication.
The respondents were asked to rate, on a scale of zero to ten, how likely they’d be to recommend their employer. They were also asked to rate their companies on factors such as working conditions, development opportunities and compensation.
It also factored in companies’ approach to a hybrid workforce.
