The hybrid sedan will be produced by Honda Manufacturing of Indiana Inc. in Greensburg along with the Civic Sedan and the CR-V.
The automaker plans to launch the model nationwide later this year. Honda Senior Vice President Henio Arcangeli says he expects the Insight to receive "fuel economy ratings competitive with the best hybrids in the segment." At last year’s North American International Auto Show, the company announced the Honda Electrification Initiative, aiming to make two-thirds of its global vehicle sales be electrified vehicles by 2030.
Honda Manufacturing of Indiana opened in 2008 and employs more than 2,400 in Decatur County. The manufacturer debuted its most recent CR-V model last year after expanding to produce the sport utility vehicles. The operation currently produces about 250,000 cars per year.
