Honda Begins Insight Production, Announces Investment
The 2019 Honda Insight is being produced at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana in Greensburg.

Subscribe NowHonda Manufacturing of Indiana has announced more than $30 million in new investment at the Greensburg plant as it begins mass production of the 2019 Honda Insight. The project includes a nearly 20,000 square-foot facility expansion to accommodate the vehicle’s assembly. Honda says the Insight marks the first time HMIN has produced an electrified vehicle. The automaker debuted the hybrid sedan in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Honda says the investment into Insight production reflects its strategy of boosting its portfolio of electrified vehicles. The company has set a goal of having two-thirds of its global auto sales involve electrified vehicles by around 2030. As part of the Honda Electrification Initiative, it plans to put electrified powertrains into virtually all of its core models in the coming years. Honda says the Insight has a projected 55 miles-per-gallon rating in the city.
The 2019 Insight will launch at Honda dealerships in the summer.
In addition to the $32.5 million spent in Indiana, Honda has brought additional investment to three Ohio plants that manufacture the Insight’s powertrain. The automaker says it pumped a total of $29 million into plants in Russells Point, Marysville and Anna, Ohio plants.
With the beginning of the new production, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana is now producing the Insight, Civic and CR-V on the same production line. The automaker says this is the first time the Greensburg plant has produced three different vehicles under one roof. The facility opened in 2008 and employs more than 2,400 in Decatur County.
Honda Manufacturing of Indiana Senior Vice President Tim Myers says the investment is part of Honda’s Indiana success story.
