Subscribe NowA delegation led by Governor Eric Holcomb has returned from what it calls a successful economic development trade mission to India. The five-day trip included meetings with government and business leaders as well as an announcement from an Indian tech company involving up to 500 new jobs.
The trip focused on strengthening partnerships and exploring collaboration opportunities in business, education and work force development initiatives. Holcomb says business "moves at the speed of relationships," and says Indiana’s relationship with the Asian nation is "stronger than ever before."
The biggest news of the trip came when engineering company AXISCADES announced plans to locate its North American headquarters in Indiana and create up to 500 jobs by the end of 2023. The company, which works with the automotive, aerospace and medical device industries, is considering a short list of possible Indiana locations for its $10 million investment.
The group also met with executives from technology giant Infosys, which announced in May that it would establish a tech and innovation hub in central Indiana and create up to 2,000 jobs over the next five years. Since that announcement, state economic development leaders have been pitching the company on making Indianapolis its central campus in the United States, which could result in even more jobs.
The trip also included meetings with executives from Columbus-based Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), which has a headquarters in Mumbai and 20 plants in India, employing more than 10,000 associates. The group toured the company’s new technical center and met with professors from the Cummins Women’s College of Engineering.
Other highlights of the trip included a business round table hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the signing of a sister state relationship with Karnataka, an Indian tech hub.
