Eric Holcomb on Thursday announced Michael Paul Watkins as the new executive director of the Integrated Public Safety Commission. He succeeds Kelly Dignin, who is retiring from the role on Friday.
Watkins was named the commission’s deputy director in 2023 and previously held other roles with the agency, including field service and support supervisor and training and outreach supervisor.
Prior to joining the commission, he served as the 911 director for Johnson County Public Safety Communications and the fire and EMS dispatch coordinator for the Greenwood Fire Department.
“Michael’s background and experience with public safety at the state, local and federal levels will support the current trajectory of IPSC,” Holcomb said in a news release. “As deputy director, he has played a critical role in providing efficient and effective communication tools that best support the needs of emergency responders.”
The Integrated Public Safety Commission facilitates statewide public safety communications for first responders and public safety professionals for use during routine, emergency and task force situations, according to the agency’s website.
Watkins will begin his new role on Saturday.
