Holcomb, INDOT Tout $100M ‘Community Crossings’ Investment

Governor Eric Holcomb says more than 280 Indiana cities, towns and counties received a combined $100 million through the Next Level Roads: Community Crossings Initiative. He joined Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Joe McGuinness to talk about the program, which they say has awarded nearly $400 million in state matching funds over three years for local road projects.

The Indiana General Assembly created Community Crossings in 2016 to help local governments improve roads and bridges. Money for the program come from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. To qualify, local governments must provide local matching funds (50 percent for larger communities, 25 percent for smaller communities).

INDOT says 444 communities applied for funds this year. Beginning next year, the department says it will make two calls for project proposals each year, with communities eligible to apply for up to $1 million once per year.
