Holcomb says the move aims to "attract more top talent to state government service."
The policy, part of Holcomb’s 2018 Next Level Agenda, takes effect January 1, 2018. He says it gives both women and men the time they need to bond and adjust to a new child.
Workers with at least six consecutive months of state employment will be eligible for parental leave. Full-time workers can receive up to four weeks of paid leave. Part-time employees may receive up to two weeks. The policy allows workers to use the time incrementally at any time within six months of the child being born or adopted.
