Holcomb Announces Judicial Appointments

Subscribe NowGovernor Eric Holcomb has appointed Magistrate Jennifer DeGroote to the Allen County Superior Court. She will succeed Judge Stanley Levine who will retire on December 31. DeGroote has served as a magistrate judge for the Allen County Superior Courts since 1999. She began her legal career in private practice. DeGroote earned a Bachelor of Arts from University of Michigan and her law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law. She will be sworn in as the Judge of the Allen County Superior Court on a date to be determined.
Also, Magistrate Thomas Hallett has been appointed to the Lake County Superior Court. He succeeds Judge Elizabeth Tavitas, who was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals in July. Hallett currently serves as a magistrate judge for the Lake County Superior Courts in the civil division in Gary. He began his legal career in private practice. Hallett also served as city attorney for the city of Lake Station and as judge of the Lake Station City Court. He has served as a magistrate in Lake County since 2009. Hallett earned a Bachelor of Arts from Notre Dame University and his law degree from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington. He will be sworn in on a date to be determined.
