The 2019 USA Hockey Tier II 14U National Championships will take place at the Compton Family Ice Arena and Ice Box Skating Rink and is expected to generate $1.7 million in economic impact for the city.
The Irish Youth Hockey League is officially hosting the event. More than 2,200 people are expected to attend the championships, including 684 participants from 36 states.
"South Bend has been bidding on the USA Hockey National Championships for many years now," said Nick Kleva, sports market development manager for Visit South Bend Mishawaka. "With the success that Compton Family Ice Arena has had and improvements to the Ice Box, it is a perfect time to host one of USA Hockey’s premier championships. We are ready to open the doors to welcome USA Hockey and all the teams to our community. We hope USA Hockey finds a second home in South Bend and continues to bring back championships for years to come."
This will be the first time the USA Hockey National Championships have been held in South Bend.
