A historic building in downtown Bedford could soon have a new owner. The C.S. Norton Mansion, which was built in 1897 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, will go up for auction next month. 

The 8,000-square foot, Queen Anne style mansion was built using Indiana limestone by C.S. Norton who, along with his brother Frederick, became pioneers in the local stone industry. Norton owned the Royal Blue Quarry in Bedford, which he purchased from his brother and provided the limestone used for the mansion.

Corydon-based Beckort Auctions LLC is conducting the auction on behalf of the estate of Mary R. Haverland. The auction will be held online on October 16 with an open house and inspection taking place October 4.

"This is an opportunity to own a well-known landmark in the Bedford community," said auctioneer Brian Beckort. "The house truly captures the definition of the word mansion."
