August Hillenbrand is retiring from the board of directors of Batesville-based Hillenbrand Inc. (NYSE: HI). His career has spanned more than 55 years with the company founded by his grandfather, John Hillenbrand.

August Hillenbrand was president of Hill-Rom for seven years before joining Hillenbrand’s corporate team and eventually becoming president and chief executive officer. He was a member of board of Hillenbrand Industries, now called Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. for more than 40 years. He became a founding director of Hillenbrand Inc. in 2008.

In a release from the company, Board Chair Joe Joughrey said Hillenbrand had a "profound impact on our company."
