Van Donselaar, who was raised in Muncie, studied medicine at Des Moines University and joined Hendricks’ adult hospitalist team in July 2013. He was named hospitalist director in 2020.
The incoming chief medical officer also chaired the system’s ancillary pharmacy and therapeutics committee and served as a key member of the medical executive committee, according Hendricks.
As medical chief, Van Donselaar will oversee clinical programs for the hospital system.
President and CEO Dr. Michelle Fenoughty announced the internal promotion in a news release last week.
“The chief medical officer is crucial to maintaining the high-quality care we provide on a day-to-day basis,” Fenoughty said. “Dr. Van Donselaar’s rich clinical and leadership background makes him an ideal fit for his new position. He has the benefit of familiarity with our medical staff, was a physician champion for our collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Care Network and understands our organization’s strengths and opportunities.”
Fenoughty was named the health system’s first female president last month replacing Kevin Speer, who resigned in March to lead Ascension St. Vincent Indiana. Fenoughty, a past Hendricks chief medical officer, began her new role July 10.
