Melissa Mitchell, who has been with the organization since 2008, has been appointed to the leadership position. Mitchell replaces Beth Wrobel who is retiring after 22 years as CEO.
“Melissa will make an outstanding CEO,” Wrobel said in a HealthLinc. “She has a deep understanding of health center operations, a wealth of experience in the FQHC space and the support of the board of directors and the staff.”
Mitchell first joined HealthLinc 15 years ago and has served as chief information and chief operating officer for the organization. As the company expanded two years ago, Mitchell’s role grew to include chief innovation and strategy officer duties during a leadership restructuring.
Mitchell has a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications and a master’s in management and leadership. She graduated from UCLA’s Johnson & Johnson Health Care Executive Program and has a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. She lives in Knox, Indiana, and is chair of the National Association of Community Health Centers Greenway Intergy User Group and sits on the board of the Ivy Tech South Bend Campus Computer Informatics Program.
“I want to thank Beth for her leadership and am grateful for the chance to continue the legacy of creating healthy communities by providing high-quality health care for everyone, regardless of ability to pay,” Mitchell said in the release. “Our future is remarkably bright, full of limitless opportunities and success due to our unwavering dedication to innovation and excellence.”
Mitchell was selected following a nationwide search led by the Bethesda, Maryland-based firm The Meyers Group. She will begin as CEO on Jan. 1.
