Jarrell has worked with Headwaters Counseling since 1998 and served as its executive director since 2001.
The Fort Wayne-based counseling services provider announced its CEO’s pending departure in a news release Wednesday.
During Jarrell’s tenure, the organization has grown its services from 450 per month to more than 1,100. In the press release, Jarrell specifically noted the expansion of substance misuse services.
“The past 25-plus years have been some of the most valued years of my life,” Jarrell said. “When I came here, I was immediately attracted to the compassionate and caring client-centered approach. Over a quarter of a century later we still prioritize this tenet.”
Jarrell plans to step down from his leadership position on Dec. 31. On Jan. 1, Associate Director and COO Vanessa Jones will assume Jarrell’s executive director and CEO role. Jones joined Headwaters Counseling in 20210 as a therapist before being promoted to director of clinical services in 2018 and to her associate director role in 2021.
“It’s been an honor to learn from Stephen these past 13 years and watch him lead and encourage Headwaters Counseling’s staff to become the best versions of themselves,” Jones said. “As I step into this position, I will honor the precedent that Stephen has set and continue to cultivate a work environment and counseling practice that allows everyone to find their voice.”
Headwaters Counseling is inviting the public to celebrate Jarrell’s 25 years with the organization by donating $25 to help cover the expenses of counseling services. For more information, visit headwaterscounseling.org/donations.
