The city is looking to establish a mixed-use development on a three-acre vacant lot located in the heart of the downtown core.
The site is bounded by Rimbach Street, Sibley Street, Hohman Ave, and Morton Court, and is part of the city’s Downtown Redevelopment Area and the Downtown Hammond Urban Renewal District.
According to the RFP, a mixed-use development should bring more than 200 apartments to the site, which is currently an underutilized parking lot. The project would also have a retail component.
“Along with our Hohman Avenue improvements to make downtown more walkable and welcoming and our landmark downtown train station currently under design, this new development will be another great addition to the redevelopment of our downtown,” Executive Director of Planning and Development Anne Taylor said in a news release. “Ever since we received our 2019 Downtown Master Plan from Jeff Speck, our downtown has received so much positive attention and renewed interest, and this [project] couldn’t be in a better location…right in the middle of it all.”

Proposals are due Friday, Aug. 23rd at noon in the Hammond Redevelopment Office, located inside Hammond City Hall.
