Members of Hammond Local 2335 voted overwhelmingly against Lear’s proposal over the weekend, our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report.
The union, representing 1,000 workers, voted 314 to 18 to reject the proposal which included wage increases of multiple dollars an hour or more based on job type and experience.
Workers at the Hammond seat-making factory, however, said those proposals didn’t go far enough to meet to rising rate of inflation, The Times reported. They also expressed that employees who worked onsite in factories throughout the pandemic deserved to be compensated.
The Hammond factory supplies automotive seats to a Chicago plant which produces the Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator and Police Interceptor Utility vehicles.
