Hamilton County Named 21st Century Talent Region

Indiana Secretary of Career Connections and Talent Blair Milo Thursday announced the designation. Milo says the communities have collaborated effectively to attract, develop and connect talent.
“Home to more than 330,000 Hoosiers, Hamilton County has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, as a ‘Best Place to Live and Raise a Family,’ and now, as a 21st Century Talent Region,” said Milo.
The 21st Century Talent Region initiative encourages a wide-ranging group of organizations, including local governments, business groups, educational institutions, and nonprofits to create an environment to attract new jobs, raise household income and grow the population.
One major aspect of Hamilton county’s efforts is to focus on education at all levels.
“Preparing our students for the jobs of the future and attracting and retaining qualified talent is an ongoing challenge when we have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country at 2.7 percent,” said Carol Sergi, director of Workforce Strategy for Hamilton County Economic Development Corp.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. and Office of Career Connections are also working with CivicLab on the 21st Century Talent Region initiative.
“The region’s efforts and innovative thinking truly embody our pioneering Hoosier spirit, and I look forward to watching as more and more talented individuals take notice and come to our state,” said Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Indiana Destination Development Corp. Elaine Bedel.
The program was launched in June. The goal is to designate 12 regions over the next two years.
The winners so far include the Uplands region, an 11-county area around Bloomington, northeast Indiana and southeast Indiana.
