Crews have already begun construction on the apartment portion of the project, with work on the 126-unit hotel set to begin in the coming months.
The town sold the 3.4-acre property to developers Loftus Robinson and Scannell Properties in 2017. When complete, the Wilshaw will feature 90 apartment units, 8,000 square feet of retail space, the Wilshaw Indianapolis hotel and a 2,600-square-foot restaurant.
"The Wilshaw presents a key investment milestone for Speedway redevelopment, providing new housing options and the experience of living in the heart of Main St.," said Speedway Town Manager Jacob Blasdel. "Speedway is affordable, walkable and has a number of amenities we know both Wilshaw residents and visitors will enjoy. We look forward to Loftus Robinson and Scannell Properties completing this development and welcoming new residents to our town."
Speedway says the apartments are expected to be complete in 2019. Earlier this week, Blasdel told Inside INdiana Business the Wilshaw is one of several developments that will help continue the rise in popularity of Speedway’s Main Street district as well as future investment.
