After CSX phased out services at the McDoel Switchyard, planning began for the 58-acre brownfield in 2012.
Designer, REA, will break ground on May 11, just south of downtown. The park project includes performance lawns and a stage, multi-use pavilions, dog parks, water features, sports courts, wetlands, and other features. Axis Architecture + Interiors of Indianapolis, Hunger Skateparks of Bloomington and Florida-based Delta Fountains are some of the contributors to the project. A timeline for completing the park has not been announced.
