The $233 million project is expected to be completed in 2018.
Franciscan announced the project last year. The hospital will be built on an 86-acre site near Interstate 94. It will feature 108 inpatient beds, outpatient services and a medical office building.
The original facility was built in the 1920s and has undergone several updates and additions. Franciscan says the new location will make getting to the hospital easier for patients traveling from Porter and LaPorte counties, as well as patients from southwest Michigan.
Franciscan says the current location will retain some services while the new facility will have the latest technology and equipment in the cath lab and operating rooms.
