Griffith-Merrillville Airport in Lake County has been awarded a $140,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The funding will help the airport evaluate potential environmental impacts of acquiring nearby land.

The airport is considering acquiring land adjacent to the facility.

In a release, General Manager Craig Anderson said, "The future acquisition of this area will allow us to remove existing and potential obstructions and further protect the approach to one of our runways."
