Greenwood Neighborhood Earns ‘Historic’ Designation

The city says the Greenwood residential historic district features homes more than 150 years old and the designation will allow homeowners to quality for tax credits for renovation and restoration projects.
The city partnered with nonprofit Restore Old Town Greenwood Inc. on the effort to receive the designation. The application was funded through a grand from the Department of the Interior. Greenwood Planning Director Bill Peeples says the designation could help spur investment in the area.
"A historic residential district appeals to residents who appreciate a sense of place and tradition," Peeples said in a news release. "The hope is that this designation will serve as a catalyst to encourage more people to move into and invest in improving the neighborhood."
The city will officially receive the certification of designation at the annual Department of Natural Resources Historic Preservation Awards Ceremony on August 7.
