The organization announced this week that Scott Walker is leaving to become CEO of the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance and Chamber.
During his tenure as CEO, Walker helped secure $2.5 billion in investment that led to the creation of more than 5,000 jobs, Greater Lafayette Commerce said. He also helped the region secure more than $65 million in funding from the state’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, or READI.
Rachel Hazaray, chair of Greater Lafayette Commerce’s board of directors, said in a news release that Walker’s leadership has been transformative for the community.
“While we are saddened to see him go, we wish him success in his new position and are confident he will bring the same passion and expertise to Southwest Louisiana,” Hazaray said. “It was a privilege to work alongside him.”
Walker’s final day in Lafayette will be Jan. 15.
“The vision of Greater Lafayette Commerce, combined with the collaborative spirit of our region, is creating unstoppable momentum and guiding Greater Lafayette in a bold new direction,” Walker said in the release. “It has been an honor to be part of this exciting transformation underway, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”
The Greater Lafayette Commerce board of directors plans to begin a search for Walker’s successor immediately. The organization boasts more than 1,100 members from the business community with a 92% retention rate.
