Grace announced Thursday that the partnership with Baptist Theological School has created an accredited evangelical seminary with six students in a local church ministry master’s program.
The school is called Akademija Teoloskih Nauka, or the Academy of Theological Sciences, and began on August 25. Its first six students are scattered across Serbia and the Balkans and will travel to the academy for a one-week intensive session. Initial courses in the program include “Become a Mature Disciple” and “Biblically Healthy Churches.”
Grace seminary leadership say their research shows most Serbians identify as Orthodox Christians and less than 1% are evangelical, making the new seminary a strategic move among Grace’s goals for outreach.
Gabe Tribbett, a director with Grace’s Deploy seminary program, said conversation about the new effort in Serbia began out of discussions with a Grace alumna and leader of the Baptist Theological School.
“They recognized the great need and wanted to create more opportunities to reach Serbia, the Balkans and Greater Europe with the Gospel,” Tribbett said in the seminary’s news release, “And we were immediately interested in doing anything we could to partner with them in that pursuit.”
Grace is located in Winona Lake, about 120 miles north of Indianapolis.
