The year-long grant will support engineering programs and allow for the purchase of new digital manufacturing equipment.
“Manufacturing is a huge part of engineering and a huge employer in the area,” engineering department director Fred Wentorf said in a news release. “But the way parts are being manufactured is rapidly changing, and a large growth area is digital manufacturing. Thanks to the Don Wood Foundation’s generous investment in our program, the engineering program at Grace will now be able to elevate our students’ education through hands-on experience with industry-relevant equipment and curriculum for digital manufacturing.”
Grace engineering staff say this year’s $443,240 grant will help make significant investments in providing hands-on education relevant to the industry. The engineering department received accreditation last fall for its bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
“The Grace College Engineering program is an important asset to Kosciusko County,” Don Wood Foundation President and CEO Laura Macknick said. “With the growing need for engineering talent in the region, Grace College will be a key partner, particularly given the importance of medical devices and related technologies to the area’s future growth.”
This is the second recent grant the Don Wood Foundation has awarded to Grace College. The foundation gave $150,000 to the engineering department in 2021 to support the purchase of industrial-grade robotics equipment.
