Governor to Lead Economic Delegation to Asia
During a 2017 trip to Japan

Subscribe NowGovernor Eric Holcomb and Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger will lead a business delegation on several trips to Asia this fall to bolster economic ties between Indiana and foreign companies doing business in the Hoosier state. The transpacific trips include stops in Japan and Korea in early September, and China and India in October. On both trips Holcomb and Schellinger will meet with government officials, industry leaders and business executives to foster relationships and develop new business prospects.
“Markets are more connected now than ever before, and we’re proud to support a growing global dynamic economy in Indiana,” Holcomb said.
According to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Indiana is home to 1,004 foreign-owned business establishments that support more than 193,000 jobs across the state. The state data shows Japan as the clear leader with more than 300 businesses doing business in Indiana, including Subaru Corp., Toyota Motor Corp., and Honda Motor Company. Holcomb will meet with executives from those three automakers during the trip.
“We’re committed to continuing to cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships that will create even more opportunities for Hoosiers and a shared prosperous future,” said Holcomb.
During the trip to China, Gov. Holcomb and Sec. Schellinger will meet with Chinese businesses and business chambers to underscore the importance of the Indiana-China relationship. Holcomb will also meet with leaders of Indiana-based companies with operations in China, including Eli Lilly and Zimmer,.
While in India, the governor will join the Indiana Pacers in Mumbai for the NBA’s inaugural games in India in early October.
