Eric Holcomb on Wednesday announced the appointment of Joe Habig as acting director of the State Budget Agency. Habig, who currently serves as deputy director, will succeed Zac Jackson, who is stepping down from the role April 5.
The governor’s office said Habig will continue his duties as deputy director while taking on the acting budget director role. As acting director, he will work with state agencies to prepare the next biennial budget.
“Joe has proven his dedication, financial expertise and leadership qualities during some of the most unpredictable times in recent history,” Holcomb said in a news release. “He is a steward of fiscal leadership who cares deeply about the future of Indiana which is why he is the perfect candidate to provide the continuity during the remainder of my administration.”
A graduate of Indiana University, Habig has served more than eight years in Indiana’s Army National Guard and is currently an infantry officer in the 1st Battalion 151st Infantry Regiment of the 76th Infantry Brigade.
Last month, the governor’s office announced Jackson was stepping down to become chief financial officer and controller for the city of Carmel.
A timeline for naming a permanent budget director was not provided.
