Eric Holcomb selected Daniel Shackle on Wednesday to serve as the new commissioner of the Department of Local Government Finance. The previous commissioner, Wesley Bennett, was named by the governor to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
Shackle will begin his new role on Monday.

Previously, Shackle was the chief legal officer of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, providing advice to the commissioner and the BMV’s lines of business, administrative adjudication, contract drafting, public records, management of litigation matters and administrative rule making. “I look forward to continuing the success the department realized under Commissioner Bennett and engaging with local governments across the state,” Shackle said in the release. “Much like the BMV, DLGF and its dedicated employees provide a valuable service to Hoosiers. I am eager to get started.”
