The $21 million project will create a state-of-the-art nursing and public health education center and also feature enhanced dining and gathering spaces.
The college said the new nursing facilities in the building will triple the space that its nursing and public health programs currently operate in.
The nursing and public health education center will occupy the 72 year-old building’s second and third floors, which have been used as campus storage space for the past 25 years.
The center will feature three inpatient simulation rooms, six exam rooms for use in high-fidelity simulation training, a 10-bed skills lab, flexible classrooms, student lounges, study areas and office spaces.
“The academic programs that will be housed in this building – nursing and public health – are deeply connected to our local community,” said Goshen College President Rebecca Stoltzfus. “We know that increasing nursing graduates will have a direct and positive impact for our community. Many of our nursing students are from Elkhart County, and even more of them stay in the county after graduation.”
The first floor will also have a new kitchen to provide enhanced dining, a student lounge and collaboration spaces, multi-purpose conference room and event space, and expanded outdoor patio space for dining and events.
The renovations are expected to be complete by early 2025. You can view project details and updates by clicking here.
The project is being funded with donations, as well as a $4 million grant from the federal Economic Development Administration and a $1 million grant from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County.
